Nishi is a talented Japanese florist with a highly original approach
to flower design. Harumi takes you on a journey to Satori or enlightenment.
An extended introduction explains the origins of Zen Buddhism
and shows how the main teachings of Zen can be related to flower
arranging. Armed with an understanding of these basic concepts,
the contemplation and making of Harumi's intoxicatingly beautiful
displays will unlock your creative potential and draw out inner
calm.
Each
of the nine chapters looks at a different approach to flower design
and has a specific theme, such as the universe in Mu, flower bouquets
in Iki, the unusual or novel in Bassara and displays for meditation
in Satori. The aim is to present an array of stunning flower arrangements
that are to some degree influenced by Zen principles and beliefs.
There are also ideas for flower sculptures in Doh and still-life
floral art in Sei, as well as designs based on Esoteric Buddhism
in Mandala. Early chapters on Zen gardens and interiors, which
are packed with evocative images of gardens and homes in Japan,

garden and interior design. The author has also devised nine specially
titled step-by-step projects, including Silver Zone, The Ashes
of Happiness and A Garden of Healing.
With
its' stunning photography and flower designs to suit every mood
and occasion, Zen Flowers is not only a celebration of
the flower, bbu the start of a personal voyage of discovery for
