Lisa's February Insights

Happy February and Happy Imbolc Friends :) Imbolc or St. Brigid's Day celebrates the slow return of sunlight and that we are one month closer to spring. Hurrah! The cards for this month are asking us to make the most of what is left of winter in a way that will nourish our souls, renew our hearts and clear away more mental clutter before the physical act of spring cleaning begins. Part of the beauty of this time of the year is that we are not so distracted by other things (gardens, picnics, garage sale hunting!) and we still have some down time to work on our inner selves. The still shorter days offer a refuge where we can work on our shadowy stuff, journal and meditate more etc. We can use this last bit of winter down time to reflect and plant some seeds in our hearts for what changes we would like to bring forth in the spring :)

#1. King of Swords: Well, let's just say it...this guy isn't much fun at a party. He isn't your warm fuzzy type. He is easy on the eyes, very smart, can talk a blue streak about politics BUT hitting the dance floor he is not. He is a bit intimidating, always sitting there, looking, analyzing, judging and weighing his options. He is fair and considers both sides and always picks the most logical explanation. He is all about mental energy. Thinking, planning, resourcing and did I mention thinking? No emotions allowed in his club house.
Think Mr. Spock (Star Trek). Think Daniel Day Lewis and Daniel Craig. Think Tony Soprano, Don Drapper (Mad Men), Enoch Nucky Thompson (Boardwalk Empire), Walter White (Breaking Bad) or Thomas Shelby (Peaky Blinders). All these characters hold the essence of the King of Swords. We might fall for their good looks, power, strong sense of self and ability to be direct and his super sexy bad boy attitude but we won't be getting flowers “just because”. So what is the energy of this King trying to tell us? At this point we are being asked to sit and think logically about what we can do to improve the things we want to change. No need for tissues and a bucket of ice cream....just the facts Ma'am. Analyze your situation with a clear mind. What are you doing that you don't like? Don't make excuses and do NOT apologize or feel bad for mistakes you've made. We all make mistakes. We learn from them and move on. Don't get lost in emotion and certainly do not let your ego run this show. Ego is not invited to this party because there is no dancing at this party remember? Ego will want to pull out the Twister game and contort everything so tightly you won't know which way is up. No, this time we are being asked to be more black and white about these things. For the past few months we have been given room to go within, dream and be very fluid. Now we must face some truths, use our swords and cut down to the bone of what needs to be done. Make a list. Be strong. Take a few deep breaths and start cutting away what needs to be removed. Don't put yourself down and don't feel bad because this is all about moving forward and clearing room for bigger and better things in our lives :)

#2. Impasse: Okay, so you have your metaphorical swords slashing away at what you want to cut from your life. Bad habits, crappy self talk, toxic friends, poor eating habits, smoking, not being nice to yourself, thinking you aren't good enough, letting fear rule your life...whatever it is. You are ready! You've made a logical list without the aid of cheesecake or Doritos. You are an epic warrior of your own damn boss lady self! Hurrah! You know what I want to do.....but now what?? Wait? Change?! Yes, change is scary. Maybe I like my bad habits. I don't want to eat salad and kale. My fearful life is safe. Yeeeeeees, but wouldn't you rather feel good? Wouldn't you rather feel empowered, authentic and true to you own needs? The King set us up for success but didn't stick around to help with an action plan. What the handsome King neglected to tell us is what we need to get out of our way and change course. If kale and quinoa make you want to throw the plate across the room, try baby spinach and almonds. Come up with a plan B or even a plan C. Instead of focusing on what ISN'T working do some creative problem solving and focus on what to try NEW that just might work. This brings us to the next card :)

#3. Purification (Fire): We might be feeling a wee bit battle worn just about now. It has been a while since the universe asked us to be so analytical and direct. And, truth be told, most of us don't like it. It's uncomfortable. I know I don't and I'm a Gemini. I am ALL about thinking, non stop thinking and over thinking but when it comes to thinking about and moving ahead with actual-real-life-change....not so much. This card gives us a warm hug and says it is perfectly fine to be scared and feel some resistance but change just needs to happen. Our hearts yearn for these changes. We all have a pretty good idea of what we want, but we are fearful of how to make that happen. Here is the thing, when we are open and honest with ourselves about what needs to change we make room for love to move in and that helps to calm the fears and insecurities. When we are honest about what we would really like for ourselves, that is the first step to combating our fears. When we problem solve for ourselves with the kind of understanding and love we give our friends and family we open ourselves up to a place of grace and harmony in our souls. Allowing yourself to be kind, loving and forgiving deep down sends fear the message that there is a new sheriff in town. Yes, it takes work and patience and you can't change your thought process overnight but we can try. Like the woman on the card, put your hand over heart and simply feel the energy of love within you. Think of yourself in a loving manner and see how that makes you feel. It is the essence of your life. At this point we understand that our emotions from the heart can work in tandem with the logic of the mind to create a wonderful balance if we surrender to it. Great things start to happen when we stop fighting ourselves and open to the possibility of what can be. When you make room in your heart for change the universe will offer you great things to fill that new space.

#4. New Beginnings: This card literally flew out of the deck and cross the table with a serious “swoosh” and what a perfect message to end on...or start with if you will :) When we work on ourselves within a more balanced state and stop beating ourselves up the universe will offer us not only support but opportunities for change and new beginnings. It is about faith in our abilities and trusting ourselves. It is about letting go of old patterns so new and better ways can take their place. The possibilities are endless and isn't that a wonderful way to start the next turn in the wheel of the year. Make the most of what winter we have left to think about what new beginnings you want to start in the spring and what you need to do to get there. Take your time, reflect and remember go easy on yourself. Make your lists, forgive your mistakes and think about what you can change for the better. Use your inner Spock to help set some goals. Use your swords and be fearless. Enjoy February Friends! Much Love, Lisa xoxo

Lest we forget, we do still get three other seasons each year and I am believing that the purported spring season isn't far off.

In the meantime, there is planning for activities and the relief of cabin fever. To the left are the two trail guides that we carry here in the store for your convenience. Perhaps poring over a hiking guide might be an antidote?

Also, Nature London is a marvelous resource for outdoor activities all year long. I encourage us all to support this group and get involved in some great outdoor activities.

The Lifelong Journey Toward

Meaning and Joy

Thomas Moore

Thomas Moore is the renowned author of Care of the Soul, the classic #1 New York Times bestseller. In Ageless Soul, Moore reveals a fresh, uplifting, and inspiring path toward aging, one that need not be feared, but rather embraced and cherished. In Moore’s view, aging is the process by which one becomes a more distinctive, complex, fulfilled, loving, and connected person.

Using examples from his practice as a psychotherapist and teacher who lectures widely on the soul of medicine and spirituality, Moore argues for a new vision of aging: as a dramatic series of initiations, rather than a diminishing experience, one that each of us has the tools, experience, maturity, fulfillment to live out. Subjects include:

  • Why melancholy is a natural part of aging, and how to accept it, rather than confuse it with depression
  • The vital role of the elder and mentor in the lives of younger people
  • The many paths of spiritual growth and learning that open later in life
  • Sex and sensuality
  • Building new communities and leaving a legacy

Ageless Soul teaches readers how to embrace the richness of experience and how to take life on, accept invitations to new vitality, and feel fulfilled as they get older.

In her late twenties, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy—only keeping her from meeting her goals—she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year.

The Year of Less documents Cait’s life for twelve months during which she bought only consumables: groceries, toiletries, gas for her car. Along the way, she challenged herself to consume less of many other things besides shopping. She decluttered her apartment and got rid of 70 percent of her belongings; learned how to fix things rather than throw them away; researched the zero waste movement; and completed a television ban. At every stage, she learned that the less she consumed, the more fulfilled she felt.

The challenge became a lifeline when, in the course of the year, Cait found herself in situations that turned her life upside down. In the face of hardship, she realized why she had always turned to shopping, alcohol, and food—and what it had cost her. Unable to reach for any of her usual vices, she changed habits she’d spent years perfecting and discovered what truly mattered to her.

Blending Cait’s compelling story with inspiring insight and practical guidance, The Year of Less will leave you questioning what you’re holding on to in your own life—and, quite possibly, lead you to find your own path of less.

Galactic Prophecies for
the Ascending Human Collective

Patricia Cori

In July 1996, during an extraordinary out-of-body journey through the Milky Way and other galaxies, Patricia Cori was reconnected and attuned to a group of interdimensional light beings that she and her many readers came to know, through the first Sirian Revelations transmissions, as The Sirian High Council. During her remarkable mission as their Scribe, she has shared the insights of six-dimensional Sirian Light Emissaries through the books and teachings that have transformed readers over the past decades. Now, twenty years from the date of the first transmission, Cori shares new revelations that affirm the veracity of past prophecies and transmit new visions for the human race as we ascend through the outer reaches of the fourth dimension into new levels of conscious awareness and parallel realities as we prepare for our imminent emergence.

Called a "real-life Indiana Jones" by fans and readers around the world, Cori is one of the most well-known and established authorities on multidimensional realities that challenge the status quo. Her messages from distant realms empower readers to look at the dark side, to understand it, but to focus on the light for all humankind and the earth. In this new book, the Sirians once again hold us to our responsibility as guardians of this planet, with sound direction and advice for how to get through these shifting sands of our transition. Their discussions delve into many of the most crucial issues of our time, including the merging of human mind and artificial intelligence, exoplanetary migration from the earth and what that means to planets that will receive us, coming clean about cloning, the care and feeding of the human being, and the slipping of time as we know it. As the struggle between darkness and light is being fought at every level, Cori reminds us to take comfort in the fact that the Sirian High Council foresaw and told us how this time of immense upheaval would be the last phase of our passage out of the darkness and into the light of far more illuminated states of being.

A Neurosurgeon's Journey
into the Heart of Consciousness

Eben Alexander, MD
Karen Newell

In 2008, Dr. Eben Alexander's brain was severely damaged by a devastating case of bacterial meningitis, and he lapsed into a weeklong coma. It was almost certainly a death sentence, but he miraculously survived and brought back with him an astounding story. During those 7 days in coma, he was plunged into the deepest realms of consciousness and came to understand profound truths about the universe we inhabit. What he learned changed everything he knew about the brain, mind, and consciousness and drove him to ask a question confounding the entire scientific community: How do you explain the origins of consciousness if it is not a byproduct of the brain? His challenge relates to a revolutionary shift now underway within our modern scientific understanding. Ultimately, direct experience is key to fully understanding how we are all connected through the binding force of unconditional love and its unlimited power to heal.

In Living in a Mindful Universe, the New York Times bestselling author of Proof of Heaven and The Map of Heaven shares his insights into the true nature of consciousness. Embracing his radically new worldview, he began a committed program of personal exploration into nonlocal consciousness. Along the way, he met Karen Newell, who had spent most of her lifetime living the worldview he had only just discovered was possible. Her personal knowledge came from testing various techniques and theories as part of her daily routine. With Living in a Mindful Universe, they teach you how to tap into your greater mind and the power of the heart to facilitate enhancement of healing, relationships, creativity, guidance, and more. Using various modalities related to meditation and mindfulness, you will gain the power to access that infinite source of knowing so vital to us all, ultimately enriching every facet of our lives.
